Fish Pass Design

This multi-million pound Heritage Lottery Funded project aims to restore salmonid populations in the River Aire, through the construction of fish passes (specifically ‘Larinier’ baffle passes) avt four large weirs on the river.

Fishtek (working with civil contractors Suttle Projects) are carrying out all of the design work for these fish passes, both outline and civil, as well as gaining all consents for the fish passes and their construction.

A large component of the project is community engagement and Fishtek are contracted to partake in community engagement days, training and events including hosting STEM internships. Fishtek will also be capturing time-lapse and drone footage of the construction that will be used to promote the project.

The design work for these sites had to consider a variety of factors, including the listed status of some of the weirs, nearby presence of a Scheduled Monument at one site, the presence of protected species, tree-removal and re-planting, the public nature of the sites and the requirement to include facilities for the long-term monitoring of the fish passes.
