Impact Assessments

In order to improve fish passage in the entirety of the River Teme catchment, Fishtek Consulting were commissioned to look at the extent to which a network of over 20 barriers impede the free migration of fish within the river.

Following individual impact assessment of each barrier, a robust quantitative prioritisation exercise was carried out to assess where efforts to build fish passes or remove barriers should be focussed in order to have the greatest ecological benefit.

The results from the assessment were used to inform investment in the mitigation of barriers on the river and determine where efforts should be initially focussed.

Following the construction of fish passes at two barriers and removal of one barrier, further work is planned in the future on other barriers identified within the analysis carried out by Fishtek.
